HIV/AIDS Programmer/BiostatisticianICES (Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences)-Queen’s Health Services Research Facility is a multidisciplinary group which conducts health services research at Queen’s University. ICES-Queen’s is seeking an individual who will work collaboratively with investigators to conceptualize, recommend and create data sets for HIV/AIDS research projects (see descriptions of HIV/AIDS partners below). He/she will recommend analysis plans and execute analyses using an economic perspective. The incumbent will be expected to use advanced techniques and procedures; protocols will be prepared using scientific methods; and personal judgement as well as scientific knowledge will be needed in order to adapt procedures to meet the needs of the project. HIV/AIDS Partners The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Centre for REACH (Research Evidence into Action for Community Health) in HIV/AIDS is a collaborative, national partnership among leading health researchers in Canada in a range of disciplines from over 20 academic institutions, people living with HIV, front-line service providers, knowledge translation and exchange specialists, and federal, provincial, and regional policy makers to develop innovative approaches to the prevention, care and treatment of HIV/AIDS. The Centre aims to establish a pan-Canadian framework through which diverse partners – governments, communities, non-governmental organizations, professional groups, researchers, institutions, and the private sector can come together on innovative approaches to the prevention, care and treatment of HIV/AIDS. The Ontario HIV Treatment Network is an independent, not-for-profit organization funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. It is a collaborative network of researchers, health service providers, policy makers, community members and people with HIV who work together to promote excellence and innovation in HIV treatment, research, education and prevention to improve the quality of life for people with and communities at risk for HIV in Ontario. Responsibilities include creating, merging and refining datasets so as to answer research/study questions and to make data sets “research ready"; preparing linked datasets from large health services database and to develop and maintain in-house databases; conducting statistical analyses in collaboration with investigators; preparing visual and verbal presentations; and contributing to co-author papers; providing instruction and guidance to project staff and students and assisting in the hiring and training of project staff and students. The position requires a Ph.D. in Health Economics. However, the incumbent could have a Master’s in Biostatistics, Statistics, Economics, Epidemiology, Public Health, Health Services Research or other related discipline, with a solid background in quantitative skill/statistics and knowledge of economics. Familiarity with SAS or similar software in a UNIX environment is an asset. Must have experience in a supervisory role both with respect for dataset creation as well as supervising staff and/or graduate students. Must be self-motivated and able to work independently and as part of a research team.
