REPORTS TO: Manager, Methods and Standards

 

LOCATION: Downtown Toronto Subway location on University Ave

 

STATUS: Permanent full time

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

CCO has a Methodologist position open within the Cancer Informatics unit. The Methodologist provides leadership across a number of program areas through the provision of expert statistical and methodological processes in study design, data analysis and quality assurance. Working with senior methodologists, he or she is responsible for statistical modeling, internal consultation and training, leading research projects, and working on recurring or ad hoc requests. This position requires strong knowledge of health care funding methodologies, healthcare data standards, in-depth knowledge of CCO’s data holdings, and a clear understanding of the healthcare environment to ensure that this information is fully leveraged in support of CCO’s mandate.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams through problem identification to resolution in support of corporate strategies

  • Assemble and develop effective methodological approaches for accurate estimations, forecasting, trending, and predictive modelling

  • Lead development of analytical protocols and serve as an expert resource for priority projects and play a key role in ensuring the appropriateness of analytical methods and accuracy of data analyses at corporate level.

  • Provide leadership and training in statistical methods, training and supervision to other analytical staff

  • Assess, interpret, and present on new/existing data sources.

  • Lead development and enhancement of indicator and reporting solutions to support identified business objectives

  • Prepare and present reports and papers for presentation in a variety of research and policy forums

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • A masters level degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Biostatistics, Econometrics, or Epidemiology, or recognized equivalent, is required

  • Minimum five years related experience.

  • Experience in case mix development and application

  • Experience in funding model development and implementation

  • Advanced knowledge of statistical methods, solid knowledge of databases and information management principles

  • Advanced ability to manipulate data with spreadsheet, database, and other analytical software. Advanced SAS programming skills required.

  • Knowledge of healthcare or demographic datasets and standards including ICD-10, CCI, NACRS/DAD, MIS, Statistics Canada census and geographical data an asset.

  • Conceptual knowledge of health care system performance measurement, health information systems and data warehouse design & deployment.

  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills
