Associate Director for Demographic Programs

The U.S. Census Bureau seeks an Associate Director for Demographic Programs. The Census Bureau’s mission is to serve as the leading source of quality data about the nation's people and economy. It is the largest general-purpose statistical agency in the United States and the statistics it produces touch every aspect of Americans’ lives–health, crime, income, education, labor force participation, housing conditions, consumer expenditures, retail sales, construction statistics, and foreign trade flows.

The Demographic Programs Directorate plays a crucial role within the Census Bureau, developing and generating population projections, running the Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP), and conducting surveys for other federal agencies which provide key statistics charting the society or economy. The Demographic Programs Directorate designs the surveys, collects the data, processes the completed questionnaires, and assists its clients in providing statistical information to the country.

The Associate Director will help build the Census Bureau of the future. Under the leadership of Director Robert M. Groves, the Census Bureau is currently pursuing organizational realignment and management reforms that will improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance data quality across its operations. The Associate Director will shepherd an agenda of change and reengineering to meet shifting demands for data, leveraging new technologies, and addressing the challenges of data collection in the 21st century. The ideal candidate is a proven change agent and a leader with strong management skills and experience as well as a deep understanding of survey research methodologies.

The Census Bureau has retained Isaacson, Miller, a national executive search firm, to assist in this recruitment. All inquiries, nominations and resumes should be directed in confidence to: Vivian Brocard, Vice President, Heather Brome, Senior Associate, Isaacson, Miller, E-mail: 4320@imsearch.com.
