The School of Public Health, University of Alberta, is seeking to fill a tenure-track position in the area of Biostatistics.  The appointment will be at the Assistant Professor level, however an outstanding candidate may be appointed at the Associate level.
 
The successful candidate will develop a biostatistics research program, spanning the development of new methods and application of existing methods to public health and biomedical research questions. This individual will have doctoral level training in biostatistics or statistics and will be responsible for teaching graduate courses in biostatistics. The applicant must have knowledge of public health, and actively interact with statisticians, epidemiologists, public health professionals, clinicians and other scientists across the university.  The candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with faculty in the Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences. Experience related to public health will be an asset.

Duties:
  • Develops a strong research program in biostatistics (theoretical and applied) that will attract peer reviewed funding
  • Approaches scholarship from a theoretical framework with relevance to practice
  • Develops and teaches graduate courses that present a blend of theory and practice
  • Supervises thesis based graduate students
  • Advises MPH students in Applied Biostatistics, including field practicum and capstones activities
     
Required qualifications:
  • PhD degree in Biostatistics, Statistics or relevant quantitative discipline
  • A track record of high quality outputs that demonstrate potential for independent research
  • A trajectory of research to indicate potential success in peer-reviewed grant applications
  • A demonstrated aptitude for teaching graduate courses in biostatistics, theoretical and applied research methods
  • Evidence of ability to work in an interdisciplinary, collaborative environment and
  • Relevant post-doctoral experience; evidence of engaged scholarship is an asset
     
Applicants must submit a letter of application outlining their research, teaching, and public health experience and interests, a curriculum vitae, reprints of up to five of their most significant publications, a teaching dossier and the names of three potential referees. The selection committee will begin consideration of applicants on July 31, 2017 and continue until the position is filled.  The start date for this position is January 2, 2018.
