Case Studies for SSC 2004
Who can give a presentation?
The Case Studies in Data Analysis sessions will be held at the SSC Annual Meeting in Montreal May30-June2, 2004. Each Case Study will be introduced by a subject-matter expert, so that the teams presenting analyses will not have to repeat the background information. It is expected that each team will have 15 minutes to present their results, but this will depend on thenumber of teams presenting. You could opt for a poster presentation if you prefer.
The sessions are intended for teams of graduate and senior undergraduate students working either with or without faculty mentors. If you think you might want to participate, please let me know by April 15, 2003 (late registration will be accepted if arrangement is feasible). I will need to know the list of names for your team, the university which you represent, your chosen case study, and your choice of a platform or poster presentation. I will also need to know if you are giving any other papers at the meeting, to avoid scheduling conflicts.

Case Studies
Case Study I - Asthma
Overall objective
To explore the use of different models for categorical symptoms data recorded in a daily diary card by subjects with a chronic condition.
This project is suitable for students interested in exploring and researching methods not necessarily covered in detail on an MSc course, but with important practical applications.
Case Study II - Anorexia Nervosa
Research Questions:
- Investigate the different developmental trajectories of physical activity in the patient (AN) and control groups.
- Do Female Adolescents with Anorexia Nervosa (AN) with a propensity to lose weight reflect a family transmission where activity levels are high and over-consumption is avoided or discouraged. Does this behavioural profile increase risk for AN?
