Workshop presented by Duncan Murdoch of the University of Western Ontario.

R is an open source package for statistical computing, based on the S language. This full-day workshop will teach programming in R, running from basics to advanced programming topics. It will consist of four sessions:

1. Introduction to R: the basics of the language, how it’s organized, what capabilities it has.

2. Building add-on packages to R. What these are, why you want to use them, and how to do it.

3. Working with packages that call C or Fortran routines.

4. Working with R objects from external code.

The workshop will be presented by Duncan Murdoch, a member of the R Core team. Participants should bring a laptop with R installed; a CD ROM with the development tools needed for the later sessions will be available for Windows users.
